In partnership with Jobs Australia, the Social Policy Institute at the Crawford School of the ANU runs a series of workshops exploring major social policy concerns. The workshops bring together academics, researchers, senior public servants and others from the policy community.

4.3 million Australians aged 16 to 65 have a disability. They face a multiplicity of issues in joining, and remaining in, the workforce. People with disabilities are less likely to be employed and participating in the labour market, and more likely to be unemployed than other Australians. Australia ranks 21st out of 29 OECD countries for disability employment.

This presentation by Honorary Associate Professor, Dr Ann Nevile, will look at current policy settings to help Australians with a disability to find employment; consider the current ‘performance management’ framework; and propose some core design principles which are necessary for improved employment outcomes. It will also consider the results of work on ‘measuring quality’ in the provision of disability employment services. The commentators are Peter Whiteford (Crawford School, ANU) and Peter Defteros (Jobs Australia).

This workshop series is in partnership with Jobs Australia and is by invite only.
