The new Tax and Transfer Policy Institute at The Australian National University, announced in the recent Federal Budget, with an initial $3 million endowment and supporting cash and ongoing funding from ANU, will aim to answer the big questions for the country and region about tax and transfer systems.

The Institute will be located in the ANU Crawford School of Public Policy and will draw on expertise from the School and University, other Australian universities, and from around the region and throughout the world. It will be led by an internationally renowned Chair in Tax Policy, to be secured through a worldwide search, and its operations will be overseen by an Advisory Board to be chaired by Dr Ken Henry.

The formation of the Institute builds on a key recommendation from Dr Henry’s Tax Review to provide a “centre of excellence” to “undertake independent policy research” on taxation matters.

The Institute will be supported by an initial group of Fellows who bring significant expertise on tax and economic policy. It will also develop a post-doctoral research program, allowing early career researchers to access and work with Institute academics and Fellows.

The establishment of the Tax and Transfer Policy Institute builds on the active policy engagement already happening through the government-funded Australian National Institute of Public Policy (ANIPP) and the HC Coombs Policy Forum – a unique partnership between the Australian Public Service and ANU.

Speakers include:

  • Professor Tom Kompas, Director, Crawford School of Public Policy at The Australian National University and Foundation Director of the Australian Centre for Biosecurity and Environmental Economics (AC BEE)

  • Professor Ian Young AO, Vice-Chancellor, The Australian National University

  • The Hon David Bradbury MP, Federal Member for Lindsay, Assistant Treasurer and Minister Assisting for Deregulation

Breakfast will be provided.

Places at this event are strictly limited and registration is essential.
